Since my purchase of the ASI2600 to replace my ASI1600 I have been documenting my testing of this new camera to address a few specific concerns. You can read my posts at Sky and Rockets.  The latest comparison image has also been uploaded to Astrobin

Comparison - ASI2600 vs ASI1600

Hi, have a venerable SBIG 8300M that will be replaced soon so these data are of considerable interest… think these are what Jerry Macon has and he swears by them.

Thanks

Very nice write-up, Michael.

I replaced my ASI1600 with the ASI2600 and have been using it on nebulae at 100gain.  For galaxies, I have been trying a gain of  0 as well  but I need to test it more as some have already used a gain of 100 on galaxies with great success.   This camera ,producing amazingly little noise and no micro-lensing effect, makes it a clear winner over the ASI1600.

I'm doing more testing on the gain setting.  At gain 100 the full well capacity drops significantly.  This may create posterization if the actual data is very weak and you need to stretch a lot. But with good data I can see where 100 is the best all around gain to be utilizing. My normal process is to image the star field separately at lower gain and exposure, thus mitigating this issue considerably.

I honestly think that if there were a sensor similar to the IMX571 in almost every way just downscaled to be 4/3rds, it'd be an instant hit, although my guess would be that it'd make the 294MM completely obsolete.

3nm Antlia Narrowband Filters
I recently upgraded my ZWO 7nm Ha and OIII filters with the 3nm Antlia Pro filters and could not be happier. I purchased the ZWO filters as part of a kit when I purchased the ZWO ASI1600MM 5 years ago. I have been very satisfied with the ZWO filters ...

WBPP stacking duration
Hi dudes! Yesterday I stacked, with the PixInsight WBPP, it was time to NGC7000 (North Ameeica nebula) with 48 lights (which by the way the ASI 2600 takes 56 MB weighted files) There were also 60 flats, 60 dark flats and 30 or 40 darks, with the addi...
