NGC 7048 is found in Cygnus at a distance of about 5200 light years. It is medium bright and moderately small at about one arc minute. It is bright enough that the somewhat faint Ha field that it is imbedded in is not often imaged. Also not often seen are the faint O3 "lobes" or "wings" that extend top to bottom in my image. I have tried to preserve the natural color of the object as seen in RGB although my version is much more saturated due to the contrast I was able to obtain from the narrowband. Also of interest is the "mystery object" that can be seen on the larger FOV image to the upper right of the nebula. This is a small ring-like structure next to a pair of stars. It is visible on O3, Ha, and RGB images (see below) and on at least one other individual's image as well as in Stellarium although it is not identified anywhere I can find. I suspect it is a small and faint planetary due to it's shape. New object? Probably not, but since I have not been able to identify it, I am unsure. Taken over 9 nights between September 3rd and 12th, 2025 from SkiesAway Observatory in California. Other Astrobin images of 7048 can be found here. 📷 Mystery_Object_RGB.jpg 📷 Mystery_Object_Ha.jpg
