how to fix the horrible banding? Would dithering do wonders to the banding?

In PixInsight, under Scripts/Utilities - CanonBandingReduction does a good job of removing horizontal banding.

Siril is free and has a banding removal tool that works great. If you have banding in both directions (horizontal and vertical), you can rotate the image and apply the algorithm to the other direction as well. The banding removal tool works on the stacked image or you can apply it to individual subs prior to stacking them as well.
