Celestron C8 2" image path - Forums

I will preface this with I am new to this rabbit hole of a hobby and am hoping to get some advice from you good people.

Background: I just purchased a EdgeHD 8 (its on back order) and the good folks loaned me a C8 until my scope comes in. I have a ASI432MM, ZWO 7x2" FTW, ZWO OAG-L, and a Celestron 6.3 reducer (loaner)…

My question is regarding the adapter which is a Celestron T-ADAPTER-SC #93633-A. The end is much smaller than the OAG-l femaie threads. Shouldnt the adapter end be closer to 2" or am I missing something. If it is the wrong adapter, what would the correct adapter be.

Welcome to this rabbit hole! It's a lot of fun here

I am not sure about the OAG-L but if you are looking for 2" image path I am quite happy with Baader Clicklock 2" (see link below).

BTW you have a little bit smaller sensor compared to mine but I wasn't so happy with Celestron 0.63x reducer, so I ordered Starizona reducer (for this reason I also needed Baader Clicklock 2") - you can see the thread link below. Please note this is related only to older C8 SCT and not EdgeHD, so maybe you should check what you need for your final telescope before jumping to costs.

The setup at ( https://www.flickr.com/gp/dave_stokes/828867Vq67) works for me -- either for narrowband as-is, or for planetary minus the FR and plus a Powermate. I find the Baader clicklock useful -- short, sturdy, and rotateable. The scope pictured is C8 XLT, but same setup (minus 0.63 FR of course) works on my C11 Edge.

I have no experience using OAG.

The T-adapter might only be useful for attaching a DSLR, which requires that specific standard backfocus distance.

Thanks for the information..

I spent the better part of the day reading, watching, reading, and then experimenting. I think I have finally figured it out and will know soon enough when I test my 1st test shoots at the coming annular eclipse.

Heading to Monument Valley right in the path of annularity.
