I've had discussions with some of my astro colleagues in the past about the fact that these open clusters seem to be a little bit under appreciated.

Now, thanks to Frank, we have a group to showcase these interesting and beautiful subjects.

After seeing how many images have been added in just a few short hours,  I believe  I may have been mistaken about open clusters being under appreciated!

I am enjoying reviewing all of these great images.

Wow - that's great! Im deeply impressed to see more than 168 submitted images just 12 hours after creating the group. :-) Thanks for that, guys!!!

Mike, perhaps we have slightly underestimated the number of images of open star clusters. ;-) Nevertheless, they have now been given a good place to be.

By the way, here (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_open_clusters) you can also find a very good list of these star clusters in table form. Interesting is that many of them are also "hidden" in well known objects and nebulous areas.

And here (https://www.astrobin.com/groups/218/) is also the direct link to the group - I would be happy if we become even more members. :-)

Cheers
Frank

I'm currently working through the AL open cluster project.  This looks like a great group for sharing results!

Howdy From Wyoming!
I've been interested in nature, wildlife, and scenic photography all my adult life. But the first time I pointed my camera at the sky (deliberately, anyway) was the 2017 solar eclipse. I was in the 98% totality zone, so I bought my first piece of...
