DSLR question

I connect my Canon 70D DSLR to my ASIAir Mini Mini with a USB cable. And it works fine. But I notice theres a small plug in hole on the mini labelled DSLR, and I wonder what thats for.

Its an optional shutter release cable port - should not necessary if you have control with the USB cable.
