Hey all. I'm currently planning another trip up to the White Mountains and staying at Grandview. I was there in August for a week but only had one good night as some monsoonal flow had come through hard. I'll likely be up there Sept 11th thru the 16th weather permitting.

For those unfamiliar, it's a lovely spot in the White Mountains (near the Bristlecone Pine Forest) at 8500' in a Bortle 2. Around a 4 hour drive from LA.

I'll be imaging and doing visual with my 20" dob.  If anybody is interested in checking it out by all means come on up.

I had plans for August as you know but weather was not cooperating. I may join you for the September run for 2 nights or so, weather permitting of course.

Sounds great. I may even go a couple days earlier depending on the weather. In addition, at some point I may check out the skies an hour east around Lida, NV but we shall see.

Looks like I'll be up there from Tuesday the 12th until Saturday or Sunday. Weather looks like it's going to be excellent.

Well, weather is looking crappy up at Grandview according to Astropherics. Will likely head to Pinos for the week and then maybe up to Kennedy Meadows or Grandview if conditions improve.

This sounded amazing. Hope you got some clear skies, Dan. I'm out this month but will be back for October new moon if you have any plans to go out. Probably head to Mt Pinos but open to Kennedy Meadows or Grandview depending on conditions.

Trip report… spent Tuesday and Wednesday night at Kennedy Meadows as the forecast looked much better than Grandview. Found a nice spot in the dispersed area just south of the campground along the PCT. Lots of bees and mosquitos but tolerable. Both nights were around 21.3 to 21.4. Little bit of dew by the morning. Had a bear wander by around 3 am Thursday. Temps were mild, 70s during the day, mid 40s at night.

Found some Wi-Fi at the general store, forecast for Grandview looked better so I headed up there. Thursday night got some rain wind and clouds but opened up to fantastic clear skies after midnight. Friday and Saturday night were perfect, 21.6 both nights. During the day I drove out to the Lida, NV area to scout for some spots, found a few promising areas to try in the future.

Temps dipped into the mid 30s at night but still doable. October will probably be a little bit colder but still bearable.

Definitely down to start planning a trip for October, I’ll be working until the 13th but then free for a week or two. New moon is the 14th so I’ll probably get 5 or 6 nights in. Kind of bored with Grandview (been there three times this summer) and might do a more adventurous trip, spending a night or two at different spots. Thinking Eureka Dunes, Papoose Flats, maybe head into NV or the Racetrack if Death Valley opens up. 4x4 needed for much of that. Also means I won’t have the 20” but could probably do the 12.5 for visual.

I would also like to explore the Kennedy Meadows area before the snow hits. Chimney Peak and domelands area look promising.
