Hello from Fort Valley, Virginia

I have been posting images here since February without bothering to introduce myself (how rude).  So here goes.

I live in the upper Shenandoah Valley of Virginia in the community of Fort Valley, under Bortle 3-4 skies with my wife and multiple animals (dogs and horses).  I started this obsession last summer with a Canon DSLR, a few kit lenses and a tripod, taking pictures of the Moon and the Milky Way.  Last winter I upgraded to a wide field refractor (Skywatcher ED80) and an entry level GEM (Celestron AVX).  I am enjoying this immensely and find myself constantly checking weather for clear nights (few and far between).  I am learning a lot and really enjoying this community.  I hope to keep progressing my ability (within the limits of my finances).

Clear skies and stay healthy.

Jim,

Welcome to Astrobin and thanks for sharing your images.  I don’t live too far from you in Lovettsville, VA. I know nothing about DSLR imaging but, as you know, there is a wealth of knowledge on the internet as well as the forum on Cloudy Nights site. I’ve only been imaging for a couple years but the learning curve is STEEP (not to mention the drain on finances) if you want to pursue this hobby!  It’s summer so it’s “nebula season” and there should be plenty of wide field imaging for you. Good luck and here’s hoping for good weather as we could use some around here!
