NGC6979 - Fleming's Triangular Wisp - Reported variable stars

During the observation, an unidentified celestial object was highlighted. After analyzing various astronomical atlases, applications, and archives, it was not possible to attribute this object to a previous identification. Through other images in the Astrobin archive, an alteration in one of the stars has been noticed, with a nebulosity surrounding it. I reported this alteration to the IAU (iau.org) on 17/08/2023.Altered Star Coordinates: RA/DEC (J2000) 20h49m04.40s / +31°51’16.8”

I want to share with you, and try to indagate and understand what it's. My image is in 1624mm, if someone shoots with longer focal lengths that would be great

I see it in every other images as a very saturated red star, maybe due to it being behind a dense hydrogen filament. In your image, it looks like the filter used is suffering some halo issues but I could be wrong.

Thank you for your feedback. I initially thought of a halo as well, but upon observing the other stars, it doesn't appear visible. When examining the raw details, there seems to be a sort of dust. Lastly, when I checked the images of other users capturing the same subject from the same location, a recent change on the same red star you pointed out has become evident. In fact, others also show a change. It would take a kind soul with a higher focal length to see it more clearly. Thanks again M.

Thank you for your feedback. I initially thought of a halo as well, but upon observing the other stars, it doesn't appear visible. When examining the raw details, there seems to be a sort of dust. I don't see a halo on the other stars either but at the same time there doesn't seem to be any other stars in this field of view emitting wavelengths as deep in the red to compare. Take a look into this one https://www.astrobin.com/full/0bqzvh/0/.

I'm currently at ~25 hours of acquisition for a 4 panel mosaic of this area, but at 780mm with 3nm Chroma filters. I'll keep an eye for it in mine when I'll process it.

I confirm that in 2022 it was not present, as in the image you linked. However, in this other recently taken photo, an effect is visible at the exact same point for example in the picture by  John Richards: https://www.astrobin.com/full/hj294b/0/

Hi folks,

I did the Veil nebula 2 years ago: https://astrob.in/fih0v2/B/

The images were taken with my Epsilon 130 with 430mm focal length, pixel size is 1.8arcsec.

Since  there is excellent seeing (~3") tonight, I made 3x5min exposures in Halpha, OIII and L just an hour ago

I do not see any difference to the exposures 2 years ago in all three bands, and there is no ring-like structure visible in any of the images - even though I think such a structure should be big and bright enough to be visible. I will work on making the images available, but maybe someone will make images with higher focal length soon.
