Astrophotography Field Trip on August 15th-18th in Mendocino California - Forums

I rented the same place I've been going to for the past 2 months. It's a great opportunity to image under Bortle 2 skies in a large open field with good horizon access. Better yet, no need to carry equipment across the field, you can park right next to your gear.

The house is a beautiful downstairs area that has kitchen, large living room, can sleep up to 4 people, with Wi-Fi, 2 bathrooms and air conditioning. The location is about 3 hours (by car) north of San Francisco.

The cost will vary depending upon how many people come.

Wow that sounds Awesome!
I doubt I can get more time off of work. I'm taking next week off and going to the high Sierra mountains with my portable rig.

I can vouch for the dark skies at the property Jerry is renting. I was just there with him last weekend and was able to image the Rho Ophiuchi region, which has been out of reach for me at the Bortle 3 to 5 sites I usually visit. It is also unbelievably nice to have a safe place where you can set up your equipment and leave it running all night while you sleep in a comfortable bed...although in fact I found myself staying up almost until dawn gazing at the Milky Way and tracing the lines of obscure constellations. It will be a great place to catch the tail end of the Perseids next month.

Just to be clear, the house is in inland Mendocino County, not near the town of Mendocino; there is no coastal overcast at this location.

Update:

Our Astro Field Trip is still on for August 15-18. Kevin Mcloughlin and I are still hoping to find a 3rd astrophotographer or visual astronomer that wants to join us.

If there are 3 of us, the total cost for 3 nights will be $326 per person.

Last chance to join Kevin McLoughlin and I for a 3-night astro field trip 3 hours north of San Francisco. Bortle 2, good horizon access N, S, E and W, very comfortable house with amenities. We're happy to have 1 or 2 more people join us for either astrophotography or visual astronomy. This is a great spot!

Inland Mendocino County has some of the best skies I have ever been under. I was able to see M31 with the naked eye from Hopland.
