Hi all,

At the merry age of 51, I have recently taken up astrophotography - and I'm totally hooked, even though my results are comme-ci-come-ça so far. I have acquired the necessities: A sturdy tripod, a Star Adventurer Pro pack, and I'm about to send my old trusty D600 to Spencer's for conversion. I am very much in the trial & error phase still, and have discovered that I really need an autoguider of sorts (Lacerta? ZWO ASIair Pro? The jury's out, it seems) to accomodate especially some of my longer focal length lenses for deep sky objects. I am very much looking forward to learn more from all of you seasoned and not-so-seasoned astro photographers on this site.

Thanks smile

Welcome Hans!  I was also 51 when I started 5 years ago.  The equipment choices and learning the software will keep you busy till the very end!

Cheers,

Kevin

Hei Hans,
Hjertelig velkommen. A few years older than you but still a novice :-)
Indeed, for long lenses autoguiding is essential with the SA Pro Pack.
In the interest of light weight I picked a 30mm F4 guidescope with an ASI290MM
camera which I also use for lunar photography. If for guiding only the
ASI290MM Mini would be great. The new M-GEN III is mouth watering :-)
Anyway, looking forward to seeing your first images, whether try or error.
It can only become better :-)
Cheers

Hi, thank you all for great input & advice - and of course a special takk til mine nordiske frender.  My D600 will be shipped tomorrow for a full spectrum conversion at Spencer’s, incl sensor cooling. I have worked a bit more with the SA and have obtained somewhat better results. I think I have more leeway on the SA than I first thought - the fool behind the camera (e.g. me) is of course to blame, as I need to be better at polar alignment. But I truly like this new hobby, with all its tinkering and, at times, frustration. Looking forward to share some results in the not-so-distant future!

Take care, all!
