I can see master astrophotographers tend to specialize, or at least dig deeper, in certain directions.

- Some explore the more artistic side of astrophotography 
- Some strive to discover new objects 
- Some try to complete imaging whole catalogs of objects
- Others will make huge mosaics
- etc.

The list is probably endless but could you help me expand it a bit and indicate one or several masters of each of these specialties?

Hello: 

- This is highly subjective. Some of my favorites sometimes switch style or try something new, so it's hard to say.
- the StDr team for sure is my no 1 favorite
- i am not a big fan so i don't follow this scene
- J-P Metsavainio comes to my mind but i am sure that there are many i've just not seen yet

As @AstroDivers said, this is something highly subjective and very difficult to answer. What distinguishes a master of astrophotography from the rest? How many astrophotographers can you name by only looking at their works and without any other available info?

If you are seeking for new paths in astrophotography I think the best route to follow is the one which will bring you the most enjoyment and with the least extra cost. I don't know if this is relevant to your question, but you may find the latest YT video by Nico Carver helpful on deciding what you value in this hobby.
