Problems with ASI2600MM and/or ASIair

Hello,

does anyone have ideas or experience with this?

Half of last night's frames look like this. I then restarted the ASIAIR and did flats. Some of them look the same or have artifacts. But not all.

I did a test run at home (3 x 60 images, cooling 50% performance) and there were no problems.

Recording details of the night:
  • ASI 2600MM Pro
  • ASIAIR Pro
  • EAF, EFW
  • 3 x 60 frames (R/G/B), gain 0
  • Sensor cooling over 90% performance (to -20c°)

... Clear sky!

Hi Helge,

it could be worth checking your USB cable and / or switch to a different one. Possibly data is lost during transfer due to a bad connection between camera and ASIAIR. Did you use the USB 3.0 cable that came with the camera?
Additionally, since your caemra is running on 90% cooling power, double check your power source. Does it deliver enough Amps (like 3 - 6 A)? I reommend using a dedicated power source for the camera and better not trying to connect it with the power outlet of the ASIAIR. I once had an ASI 294 MMC that was connected to a power source with insufficient Amps and most of the pictures came out llke your example.

Best of luck!

Thank you Lutz!

A very good idea to replace the cables completely. I really hope this solves the problem and it's not the hardware.

Your experience report with the ASI 294 MMC is also very helpful!

I am looking forward to you reporting success, if you will smile

btw, I meant  ASI 294 MC, not MMC…

Hi Helge,

I use the ASIAIR+ with a Askar FRA400 / ASI183MC pro, and I normally use a gain setting of between 50 and 100 on the main camera.

Not sure if this would matter but I'm curious - are you running this direct, or in station mode?

Hi  Jim,

thank you, good point. I like to use gain 0 for stars and gain 100 for nebulae. Since I am mobile, unfortunately no WLAN is available for station mode.

I have now completely replaced the cable and the power adapter for the ASI2600. I realized that I accidentally used for the interface between the camera and ASIair instead of a USB3 cable I used USB2.

I replaced the old power adapter (12V/2A) for the camera with a new one (12/5A).

Test run was successful!

Been there...............done that !

Glad to hear all is well with the universe - good luck !

I guess the new power adapter did the trick. USB 2.0 should also work fine when using high quality cables, but 2A current is not sufficient when running the cam at 90% cooling. I myself stick to -10° C, since thus I am able to use the same dark lib during summer and winter. I once read an article in which the author claimed that the ASI 2600 does not benefit significantly from temperatures below -10° C. Not sure if that is true. I am hesitant to test it myself, because never change a running rig smile

However, glad to hear you are good to go!

Hey Lutz,
yes, I can good to go! Two amps definitely wasn't enough smile According to the manufacturer, the minimum requirement is 12V / 3A. TS recommended 5A …
