Is anyone using a qhy290mm for guiding I had used this camera for ages for guidIng via a usb 2 cable with absolutely no issues , then a little while ago it started playing up disconnecting using phd2 whilst guiding now I’ve tried connecting using a powered 5m  usb3 cable , new cables , cable solely to camera/pc  but as soon as I start guiding ,phd2 it loses connection  to camera , the camera works fine I’ve connected to my laptop in house and had phd2 looping fine , so currently using my zwo 120mini but I would like to use the 290mm in my OAG , has anyone had any issues specifically using qhy290mm.

Is this your camera? https://agenaastro.com/qhy-290m-cooled-monochrome-astronomy-camera-qhy290m.html

Sounds like you’ve tried to eliminate cable issues, but it seems like you might have an older camera, as you say, you’ve been using for a while. The model cited above has been discontinued. Perhaps your newer version of PHD2 might not be totally compatible with your camera. If it’s still available, try downloading the original PHD legacy software or an older version of PHD2.

Hi Ernie, no sorry it’s the Qhy5 -290mm version, but you may be on the right track though regarding phd2 version , like I say camera  seems to work until I start to guide , I may drop phd2 team a message and see if they have any thoughts on it , I may try loading my laptop up and having next to mount just to see if it’s cable length affecting though I used it for ages before and no problem.

On my QHY178 I had to plug it into the USB2.0 slot of powerbox to get it to behave consistently. in the USB3 connection, it was erratic and super sensitive to anything. (disconnects and such)

Have you seen how yours behaves in a software like sharpcap or something alternative? (just to rule out any driver type issues)

I’ve tried sharpcap and all seems to work ok  , I will try usb2 on a dedicated cable though I think I did try that before, having so few clear nights these things can take a while to investigate, I will save the log files from phd2 next time I try using the qhy290mm .
