hello
any idears whats causing these messy diffraction spikes? im using a sw 250pds, solid spider and rack n pinion focuser installed by myself. when the same star becomes centralized it flares out. im using asi533mc. primary is baffled, removed clips to, covered all exposed shinys with black none shinny cloth. qhy268c image looks different, extra spike and a glow! help >.< edit: focuser tube not protruding into ota, using tsgpu corrector

kind regards

I think it could be your mirror clips https://www.cloudynights.com/topic/656915-cleaner-stars-how-to-install-an-aperture-mask-on-your-newtonian/
Your top image kind of resembles the image on Cloudy Nights.
Aperture clips require to be hidden form the light path with an aperture ring.

But I'm not completely sure about your problem. Hope I'm not wrong

iv removed all metallic clips from the primary, installed a black 3d printed baffle and covered the screws with black felt, i am thinking my secondary mirror is slightly tilted, but i am unsure really. iv used my ocal to align/square the secondary to focuser and remove focuser tilt. im going to make a 50mm conduit, cut it 45deg and place that into the focuse tube see what the secondary looks like. however i do not have any other idears

edit: will try felting the plastic mask see how that goes

It's evident I'm wrong then. Try different things. I'm afraid to give further advice since I'm a beginner. Pros always fix the problems, you'll probably get an answer within a day or two.

dw mate i am still learning i have covered all i can think of with felt, i had the same issues with my 130pds and covered all shinnys with felt and that fixed the stars. it looks like something is shinning but only central to the image, if its on the edge of the image i get a different effect so im thinking secondary mirror but i have no clue (:

problem solved. between the tube and the spider 4 cutouts and the four screws holding the spider in place were letting light through. i used felt to block these cutouts and screws to stop light from passing, i also painted my baffle and focuser tube with chalk paint.

kind regards
