After posting on SB regarding how to get more sleep in this hobby, I've ended up a novice N.I.N.A. user. Although I have my equipment in an observatory, the roof is removable for astrophotography.

My question is simply this: Since I'll be photographing all night without the protection of a dome and slit, should I be worried about dew? Summer nights can be quite humid here. How do you folks handle (or ignore) dew?

How much dew you do or don't get fully depends on your climate. As an area gets near the dew point thats when you can expect it to form. Dew heaters are the most common way of dealing with dew and if you use something like a Pegasus Powerbox you can have it monitor the dew point for you and automatically control the heaters.

Dew shields are another common way of passively controlling dew but YMMV depending on how bad the dew gets. You also have to keep in mind that dew shields add a notable about of size and weight to your setup which can effect guiding performance if any wind is present.

I guess I didn't phrase my question properly. I'm not concerned with dew on the telescope as I've got a dew heater as you suggest. What I'm concerned about is the rest of the electronic equipment being covered in dew. Should I be concerned about USB ports etc.?

You can keep your control PC in some kind of enclosure to keep dew out. I wouldn't worry too much about the ports on the mount that have a cable plugged into them. For any open ports you can always cap or otherwise cover them to help keep moisture out.

Save yourself some grief and reseat all cable connections before the next session.

Like reg said, keep power supply, PC etc…in some sort of cabinet or container. I find the rest will be fine. In saying that,  my roof is automated to close at dawn with a small hoist motor and rack / pinion …diy job.
On occasions, some mornings there would be heavy dew on equipment but generally on those mornings are nice and sunny, so I open the roof for a couple of hours to dry out.
if I was to do it again I’d use a sliding gate motor, relatively easy setup.

note to above: it’s the first thing I check in morning be it Remote Desktop or look out the window 😉

The short answer is: don't.

My entire set-up is exposed to as much dew as the eastern UK seaboard is able to afford and yet, even dripping wet (literally), nothing does or has ever happened (except me sometimes getting electrical shocks).

Agree with the above. I just put towels over my boxes and electrical connections that I'm concerned about. Let the dew settle on the towel(and it will!)

Or, I have purchased two mini USB fans that I set up near the electrical and let the air move over them. The oh so small amount of air current keeps the moisture off.

I also have a small foldable laptop tent that the laptop sits in. That way dew settles on the fabric.

Thanks guys. I’ll protect the power supply and the PC.

I keep my laptop in a laptop tent.  Always closed.  Keeps out moisture and especially wasps.  It's also temperature regulated.
