ASIAIR Guide logs ? - Forums

Hi folks,

My ASIAIR+ has been working nicely with the only hitch being I can not seem to find guide log files.

Apparently the "Log" directory is not being created in eMMC, on the SD card, or on the USB drive.

I've complete several 3-hour Autorun sequences (all very good tracking) but just can't find the "Log" directory anywhere.

I'm fairly new to this so would anyone have an ideas?

Hi Jim,

You should find them within the log folder under the ASIAIR folder on you USB stick or whatever device you save your images to at the time of capture. There will be a PHD2 txt file associated date wise with the Autorun log txt file.

Thanks for the reply. Yes - I finally found them !

I was not expecting the "Log" directory to not be shown in ASIAIR after the Autorun was completed - but when I plugged the USB stick into my computer - there they were.

Feels like a "write-bug" to me.

Good 👍 I tried to answer you question within minutes yesterday but there was a problem with Astrobin. Seems they also had a write bug. It’s spreading 😁.

Next time connect to the AsiAir directory from your pc as a server connection using the IP address of the Asiair whilst it is on and finished its auto run to see if it has written the logs to the folder.

I actually have set up the connect direct through my WiFi - it was easier then I had thought.

Much better to connect that way. Spring is coming, but we still have nights <20F. WAY too cold to be sitting out there using the ASIAIR network alone.

Even with that - the files (and 'Log' directory) still don't show up until I take the USB out of the ASIAIR and plug it into my computer.

My next challenge is a better computer - with 240 lights, stacking them makes it tough to run anything else on this PC (Win 10, 32gb).

Good excuse to upgrade. 👍

Best way with the Wi-Fi. I added an extender to each of my mounts that allow me to connect via my household Wi-Fi mesh and I can go anywhere in the home with my tablet with excellent image download speed via the 5g setting. Station mode only does 2.4g.

I struggled with my MacBook at 8gb ram i5 processor when stacking and post processing. So I splurged on a big iMac fully loaded. Everything is a breeze now and it helps because my files are 122mb each from my full frame camera.

I notice you have an Askar FRA400. I have recently bought a FRA500 with reducer. Still tweaking it for camera tilt and backfocus. In fact I’ll be having another go tonight hopefully until the clouds come in at midnight. Tried it without the reducer but at f5.6 it is too slow for me. With the reducer it’s f3.9 and really makes a difference with total exposure on each project with my cloudy skies.

Your guiding looks fine. I do not have an AM5 but was watching a YouTube today where it was recommended to use 0.5s to 1.0s intervals. Apparently the harmonic drive prefers this.

Reading your background Jim I know you’re gonna love this hobby. So many aspects to it and it helps to be hands on. Beware the money rabbit hole though 🥴 We have all fallen into it 😂
