Need some help with noise reduction (horsehead nebula)

Hi everyone,

I came across some AI's online that did a way better job with noise reduction than I'm able to do with GIMP. The downside is that you have to pay for all those AI's, they add massive watermarks and I just need some noise reduction one image. Is there someone with VanceAI / Topaz or NoiseX/BlurX that's able to help my with this problem?

Two versions.

NoiseXTerminator

Topaz DeNoise

I routinely use NXT, but Topaz DN did a pretty good job. This is a tough one as the data is very noisy!

Hope this helps,

Jim

Hi Cornelis,
Prior to NoiseXterminator, I used Topaz Labs DeNoise AI with fairly good results. While I certainly understand the 'cost' aspect of Russell Croman's AI software packages, I can't over-emphasize the value that they've represented to my work. I don't have StarXterminator - haven't ventured there, as yet -  but I do use both NoiseX and BlurX, and for a total investment of ~$150US for both, my whole processing paradigm has changed.

As time allows, I'm going back over my previous work with these two AI processes, and have marveled that I used to be satisfied with the old versions of my images - these really have improved quality to a very high degree.

I don't understand the reference to 'watermarks' - NoiseX and BlurX certainly don't leave anything that I've noticed - so be confident that these new software are 'watermark' -free.

I hope this helps answer your concerns. I know you would be pleased with the results obtained. Yes, $150 is not 'pocket change', especially these days, but this is money that is very-much worth it.

Thank you Jim! This helped me a lot!

Have a look at Siril's noise reduction tools, https://siril.org/docs/doc/denoising/ and DeepSNR, https://www.astrobin.com/nhklj6/#. Both are free and, more importantly, provide some information and references regarding the algorithms on which they are based. Happy denoising!

A long time ago I used this, Neat Image. It had a free limited edition that worked some but didn't have all it could do and let you save your work.
The demo is limited to what you can do and save, and you need to figure out how to use it, but it's free. Topaz DeNoise-AI, much easier to use and
is the way to go. As for watermarks, the free trials may leave a watermark, it's the point of letting you try it first. $60 is not bad for what it does.
you'll end up using it more they once.
