I had for years a set of lunar eclipse images laying around which i couldn't register. They are all over the place since i shoot the images without a proper tripod and the moon "phase" is changing throughout the set. I tried several popular SW solutions which all failed me but found a python package specifically tailored for registering astronomical images. It doesn't seem to support rotation, but works rather well otherwise.
I wrote a pyQT GUI around it, which also allows linearly morphing the images. If someone else has a similar problem, you can find the tool here with my dataset added:

A fair word of warning, i did not spend any time on fool proofing the GUI and only jpg is supported at this time.
