Hi folks can I have any suggestions for a travel eq mount, that`s mobile to take on a plane. Don`t want it to be to heavy its to mount a redcat51. So open to ideas. I go to holiday in places that have clear skies so looking to image in these places. Thanks in advance.

Take on a plane meaning carry-on or check in?  I would suggest an AVX but that would have to be checked.  Otherwise, look into these harmonic mounts.  They seem to be very light weight and small, but can handle heavy payloads.

HEQ5, CEM40, GEM28, and GEM45 are all good lightweight mounts that will allow use for larger scopes down the line if you so choose.

I have a GEM 28 and carbon fiber tripod which I have flown with but as checked baggage.  I but the mount in the hold and my scope and cameras in carry on.

If I had a do over I’d go for one of the harmonic drive mounts - the counterweight is a lot of extra weight.

Telescope i can take hand, mount would be checked. Harmonic does look good. So will check.

I used a Redcat on a Skyguider Pro with the ZWO guide scope, ASI1600MM and an EFW. It doesn't have goto but it does make a portable setup. I needed the WO extension bar to get it to balance.

Took this with that setup. https://astrob.in/fy999h/B/

I use a Rainbow Astro RST-135 as my travel mount. It is tiny and does a great job for a wide field scope like the Redcat. I brought  that mount and my FSQ85 to Australia last Summer.  You can find the results in my gallery.

It is good enough to use as a backup mount at home as well. It is currently filling in while my Avalon is out for repair.

I am using the RST135 for this purpose. Fits easily in medium-sized backpacks along with a small scope and a light tripod. The relationship between load capacity and weight/volume is almost unbeatable. It is quality-built, too. Also perfect when you hike to your imaging location  Drawback is high price at mediocre tracking (but as long as focal lenght does not exceed, say 800mm, it is not a problem) And it is a bit flimsy when it gets to polar alignment. Still, i would buy it again simply for its portability qualities.

I'm looking at the AM5 for this purpose.

AM5 12lb or HEM27 8lb and no CW saves a lot of dead weight when traveling.
