Replace SynScan controller by EQMod cable for automated meridian control on HEQ5 Pro?

Dear astro fanatics,

The questions says it all. I normally put my SynScan controller in Direct PC Mode to control the mount via the ASIAir. I noticed that meridian flip is not performed automatically during exposures. Also read in the manual the SynScan only performs meridian flip during GOTO. To make sure of the auto meridian flip feature of the ASIAir, should I only put a EQMod cable between the ASIAir and the HEQ5 Pro?

Kind regards and clear skies smile

A meridian flip is basically just a goto command. The way it works is you wait until after you track past the meridian by say 10 minutes then you tell the mount to goto the same coordinates you're already at. The mount knows those coordinates are now on the other side of the meridian so it executes the flip.

My recommendation is to remove the hand controller entirely and connect the cable directly into your computer (ASIAir in this case). Then configure the Air to meridian flip x minutes after meridian.
