I like to ask what what telescopes people are using to take full frame images. I have zwo asi 6200mm pro and i got the william optics 81gt on the assumption that it would handle full frame. I have found that the telescope does not do full frame. Dont get wrong the the telescope is great and will continue to use it as part of my collection.

However im in the market for full frame telescope. Budget is anywhere from 3 to 6k. So ideas of pros and cons please.

Thanks in advance

Hi,

If you’re looking for a refractor, then go for a TOA 130. Combined with the 645 flattener, you’re not going to be disappointed. No problem at all to cover full frames….

Happy to hear about your final decision.

Hello,

I'm using a TS CF-90 apo refractor. Fullframe capability is good though the stars are not totally perfect in the edges with the calculated 0.8x Reducer and Flattener (TSCFRED90). But good enough for my pictures (20Mp Fullframe Camera). Total cost of refractor and reducer/flattener is about 1.800 Euros.
Easy to handle, light weight, quite good mechanical parts. Quite similar focal lenght like your william refractor.

Florian

Taka's Epsilon 130ED. Even cheaper: Any newtonian with the right coma corrector.

Just noticed the price increase regarding the TOA. It doesn’t fit anymore in the above mentioned budget.

Epsilon 130 or even better the 160ed. As for this latter, beware about the long waiting time (up to a year depending on your country / region).

Hi

i use the 6200 with three WO refractors. The Z61 which seems to work very well with the flat 61A - no doubt the pixel  scale is helping me here. The FLT 132 with the flattener and also the 0.72 focal reducer works OK but there is more vignetting and of course tilt is a challenge. The FLT 91 which with the FLAT 6A iii is the least effective not terrible but either the scope or my filter wheel cause bad vingetting that doesn’t correct 100%.

So long story short for me the Z61 works best and in some ways I regret buying the 6200 because the full frame is just a lot more hassle. The APSC 2600 is much less trouble and covers most reasonable field of view! I must stress it’s not the cameras fault it’s the user and a bit of the scopes but the 2600 is much more grab and go!

One of the most well known scopes for years that supports full frame is the Takahashi FSQ106. It has a 88mm imaging circle that will happily accept medium format sensors. I just received mine a few weeks ago.

Keep in mind it is currently about a 2 year wait for a new one. I had to wait 17 months to get mine.

Other scopes that will support a full frame IMX455 sensor below (by no means a comprehensive list). You are looking for a corrected imaging circle of at least 44mm to adequately support full frame.

- Tak TOA130/150
- The new AP110GTX - lottery to still be announced
- AP130GTX - must find used
- TEC140
- CFF135
- Stellarvue SXV130T and up
- Any Planewave CDK

Thanks folks for responses.

And yes John, I wish I had got 2600 instead. But its here and its best to add it to a new telescope.

The Astro-Physics Stowaway with 92FF field flattener will also support full frame. Currently not in production but can occasionally be found used.

The Stellarvue SVX 080T will also support full frame. I have used it with my 5D Mark IV DSLR. It is in production and I think the wait time is much shorter than other scopes.
