Hi everybody!
please, forgive my English, but I'm Italian..

I'm here to ask you an advice about my setup.
I have a Celestron SCT C8 and I would to use it in both visual and photo.
For now I have the original visual back and the diagonal mirror
I'd like to have an easier and quicker way to change eyepieces (just eyepieces 31.8mm) and, why not, a focuser integrated to the eyepieces support.
About photo, I have a Canon EOS 500D (soon defiltered in full spectrum) and I would mount it with the celestron focal reducer and probably with something to manager filters

well, I searched for something proposed by Baader planetarium like T2 System but I get totally lost with different parts! they're sooo much!!!

Do you have something to advice me?

Ciao,

Immagino che tu abbia l'adattatore per la flangia SCT. Al fuoco secondario del C8 ci devono essere circa 150 mm dalla flangia al fuoco. Detto questo, per collegare una Canon al C8 hai bisogno di un adattatore T2 (M42) per Canon o di uno M48 sempre per Canon se la flangia a cui va avvitato lo richiede, per es. un riduttore focale. In genere l'adattatore T2 (M42) va per la maggiore. Sconsiglio l'uso del riduttore focale della Celestron se non e' uno Edge HD. Molto meglio il seguente: https://starizona.com/products/starizona-sct-corrector-63x-reducer-coma-corrector. Per un focheggiatore esterno consiglio il Baader Steetrack.

I have never found the changing of eyepieces to be a particularly difficult task, even with the stock equipment.

I replaced the visual back with the Baader ClickLock which works well to swap between 2 inch diagonal for eyepieces and a DSLR with a nosepiece. This works with or without the reducer.

Salve,

The Celestron f/6.3 reducer flattener you have works very well, in spite of unfounded claims to the contrary.

For photography just get the Celestron adapter with Canon T2 mount, no need to get anything else :

For visual the original Celestron visual back (SCT to 1.25") and diagonal + 1.25" eypieces work very well.

An upgrade (at a price) might be a Celestron 2" XLT diagonal + 2" eyepieces.

Generally you can easily spend a ton of money on shiny gadgets and still achieve zero improvement, so carefully weigh your options ...

A filter wheel is not too expensive but you have to decide on filter size (1.25" vs 2") :

I can't decide for the filters: for example, in the configuration showed in the last pic where I will place filter? I don't think that the adapter could receive a filter...

I used a SVbony clip-in filter for the Canon EOS EF-mount ... fits perfectly ... H alpha and UCH ... they are not cheap so be careful with your choices.

You can always mount your camera with a 1.25" visual back, adapter and T2 mount.

It works quite well (I have used it many times over the years) and you do get just a tiny bit more vignetting.

The clip-in filters are very convenient to use for the Canon, but then you have to take the camera/lens out.

Don't know about the first item, but I do have the Celestron 2" dielectric diagonal (similar to the one above) and it's nice !

I second comments about the Celestron f/6.3 reducer/fllattener. It works very well and is excellent value. Don't let anyone tell you differently.

I like to say that Celestron's standard visual back for their SCT's is the "work of the Devil". Compression rings only for me. But I see that other knowledgable people see it differently.

The Baader click locks are also good.

I would also recommend a 2 inch diagonal

The views from a C8 with a 2 inch 40 mm eyepiece are really enjoyable.
