"The Digitized Sky Survey comprises a set of all-sky photographic surveys in E, V, J, R, and N bands conducted with the Palomar and UK Schmidt telescopes. " (https://archive.stsci.edu/dss/)

Naturally I've googled E, V, J, R, and N bands but have yet to see anything useful that is also simple.  I'm guessing V is Visible, but after that I am out of guesses.  I do realize this is probably very basic info that you'll all be surprised someone doesn't know.      Thanks for cluing me in.

Hi,

The following link may be useful.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digitized_Sky_Survey
The designations look look like they have been assigned to the original plate emulsions that were used.

You may start fromWikipedia's article on Digitized Sky Survey to work through the filter nomenclature

Perfect!  Thank you both!  If I'd have noodled on it longer I may have eventually put the right terms in the search engine to get me there, but I am so glad for the links. smile
