I just joined because I want to pursue AP.  Last time I did some was Hale-Bopp with Fiji 400.  So it's- been awhile.  I don't have a telescope at this time (I stupidly sold it last year thinking I would never use it.)  So for now, I have a Canon T6i, a Tamron 80-200 f2.8 and a Sigma 150-600 f5-6.3.  I am looking at mounts and could go anywhere from the Sky Watcher Star Adventurer Astro to Sky-Watcher EQM-35.  I am in town and am still searching for a darkish sky site that is an easy access.  I like looking at the incredible images here and would love any input about the mount.  I am sure that I will scour the images for technique and the forums for information to educate myself.

Hi Paula,

Welcome. I also joined today. Star Adventurer is good, but there is also an offering from ioptron. I bought the Star Adventurer Mini, which I love using, but I bought this knowing that I will eventually upgrade to the Skywatcher HEQ5 when funds permit. If you do have the funds look at the "goto" mounts. The biggest issue I have at the moment is trying to accurately locate the Deep Sky Objects (DSO) I want. It's fun searching for these DSO objects, but it does eat up at imaging time.

Hi!  Are you north in the state?  I have seen some nice pics from the dark skies up there.  I imagine the skies are pretty nice in Upper MI, too.

Yes, NW lower peninsula near Arcadia. Pretty dark skies here 5 miles from Lake Michigan!

I have a Canon T7i modified for my night imaging. I also have the Sigma 150-600 mm lens that I just love. I just ordered the iopton SkyGuider with the iPolar installed, just over $600 US (I live in Virginia).   I too am looking for a dark sky spot, I have one but it's 150 miles away. I have reached out to local farmers to use their fields in the winter but no reply yet. :-(

You will do well with that Sigma. Take a look at some of the images I have processed with that lens, mostly the Moon at this point but DSO when I get the SkyGuider and winter comes.

Clear Skies!

Feedback and advice on my first astrophotography as an "amateur"
Hi, I would really value the community's feedback on my first astrophotograph as an amateur. For over 30 years, I was a professional astronomer, having cut my teeth on CCD imaging and spectroscopy since the early 1980s. I was privileged enough to...
