How many galaxies can you see in this image?

I tried to process this image to maximise the number of galaxies that I could see whilst still having an OK image of M51.  How many galaxies in total can you see?

Try the annotation script in PI. Activate both the pgc and sdss r7 catalogues. That should give you at least several dozen more.

FWIW:  there are probably more than 40, but that is because there is a galaxy cluster at the top of the image (just to the left and up from the brightest star).  

I just love delving into the background of images to see what I have missed.
