Help with background extraction

I'm struggling with getting my backgrounds even and neutral and had a few questions:

1)  I tend to use DynamicBackgroundExtraction in PixInsight using a Tolerance of 2.0 and a smoothing factor of 0.5 ... what starting parameters do you use before Sample Generation?

2)  Do you use DBE on individual channels or on the RGB?

3)  Do you use LocalNormalisation and, if so, under what circumstances?

An example is the below image of M51 where I still have background issues:

Best thing would be to give the raw RGB out and see how we do it. As for the 2 & 3: DBE operates on each single channel differently (different weights) so it doesn't actually matter (nor should it) and LN should be used always to as long as there is half-decent frame without heavy gradients and no satellite traces.
