Hi Bernhard,

If you're sure you want to exclude photographic use, my answer is the Meade ACF SCT. They perform superb visually.

EDIT, PS: you've posted an image of the LX200 from Meade. You may also consider the LX85 8" or the LX65 8". The optics is the same. The LX200 has a mirror lock which I guess you won't need for visual.

The choice is pretty limited to Cassegrains, which wouldn't be my choice. My choice would be either a f/6 newton or a f/6 newton-makstuov. Furthermore, all the the others on poll have very large to large central obstruction, which make them less than desirable for visual use.

Its going to be the Maksutov that has the best quality for planetary. However why not save some cash and get a regular old SCT? I have a 6" SCT and it gets the job done.  I am sure an 8" standard SCT would be just fine.

Unlike the rest of those scopes you can use a 0.63x reducer on a standard SCT to really open up your visual options. I speak from experience on this one.
