Sorry to post this image again, but I was looking for the following feedback:

* Would you recommend larger or smaller stars for this image?
* Do I have too much or too little colour in my stars?
* Are my stars too sharp?
* Should I tone down the star brightness a tad?
* Is the galaxy core too bright or too dim?
* Is my background too dark?
* Have I overdone the noise reduction or would you do more?
* Would you boost the colour of the galaxy more?
* Any other thoughts?

* Would you recommend larger or smaller stars for this image? Star are fine, galaxy is the main subject and it is highlighted well.
* Do I have too much or too little colour in my stars? Star color are great
* Are my stars too sharp? Little bit of aberration, but nothing you can do.
* Should I tone down the star brightness a tad? NO!
* Is the galaxy core too bright or too dim? Looks ok, If it is too bright can destroy detail, if it is too dim does not pop much.
* Is my background too dark? YES! So many integration time to get those precious photons and you just hid them. And by making it so dark seems like you copy and pasted the galaxy from somewhere else, as it is much brighter then its surroundings
* Have I overdone the noise reduction or would you do more? Noise looks well controlled.
* Would you boost the colour of the galaxy more? Looks pretty colorful to me, unless you have some H-alpha data to combine.
* Any other thoughts? As the image background is so dark the galaxy extend is reduced. The other galaxy are also pretty important but they are not contributing to the final image as they are clipped.

Andy… Have you tried using the Astrobin search function? You can type M106 in the "quick search" space at the top of every page and you will see images of every single M106 posted on this site since 2011. You can narrow the search by typing "awards" and you can then see every Nomination, Top Pick winner, or every Image of the Day.

If you search you can see for yourself what the very best images of M106 look like and directly compare them to your own and in doing so you can see repeatedly, in image after image, what specific processing aspects are present in each image. and observe the similarities and differences to yours.

There is really no need to ask for simple opinions on weather or not your stars should be bigger or smaller or if your background is too dark because you can see it for yourself by looking at other images. You can also just process for your own satisfaction, many do and don't care what anybody else thinks.

Of course, some will tell you there is personal preference for color and saturation and darkness of background and lots of room for artistic impression and that is all fine if that is the road you want to go down, but if you want to really figure out what it takes to make a good image you need to study good images.

You can start by learning everything you can about the Histogram, it is on every posted image page for a reason.
