User experiences with ATIK 490EX - Forums

Hi,

I consider buying the ATIK 490EX monochrome, but I'm not sure how it performs, especially with newtons. I have a 8" f/4 system. I had an ASI1600MMC, but I sold it, because there were terrible big halos around bright stars. I don't know if I should go back to a KAF8300 cam or try a cam with the newer Sony chip ICX814. I don't care about the sensor beeing smaller, that's ok for me. Image quality and camera handling is important.

So, this goes to all users with an ATIK 490EXm. What are your experiences with this cam? Are there any halos or microlens pattern around bright stars, how does the cooling perform during summer? Are there any known issues?

Hi Stephan,

ich betreibe eine 490er am Takahashi Epsilon 130 bei f3,3. Die 490er ist eine tolle Kamera, ich habe in den 12 Monaten Betrieb bis jetzt keine Probleme. Die Kühlung im Sommer reicht eben nur 25 Grad unter Umgebungstemperatur. Das ist nun mal die Spezifikation der Kamera, d.h. bei +25 Grad außen, kühlt sie nur bis max. 0 Grad runter, was eigentlich etwas warm ist. Dementsprchend sind auch noch Hotpixel im Bild, aber das sollte bei der Bildbearbeitung kein Problem sein. Bei mir war es bisher keins.

Die Halos um helle Sterne hatte ich auch, allerdings ist die Kamera völlig unschuldig! Es lag einzig und allein an den Filtern. Jetzt mit Astrodon RGB E-Series Gen2 Filter, sind die Halos zu 100% weg. Ich denke eh, dass die Kameras nie die Schuldigen sind, sondern immer die Filter.

Hello, i have bought Atik 490m now waiting for a clear nights, i allso use Newton but its F5 so Yours will be with wider field of view - about 0.8 of degree, maybe more
