As a follow-up to my recent series on Deconvolution, I have just published a new article: "Using EZ-Decon in Pixinsight"

The EZ-Processing Suite offers a free - but very powerful - set of custom scripts for Pixinsight that address several key areas for processing an image. EZ-Decon is a script that facilitates the application of Deconvolution to your images.

Deconvolution is a very powerful algorithm that allows for the restoration of detail lost due to the convolutionary effects of optics and atmospherics. It is, however, notoriously difficult to learn to use for the beginner.

EZ-Decon uses a very different method of eliminating and managing artifacts, and this - along with a simple and convenient-to-use interface, makes it a great alternative way to apply deconvolution to your images.

Thank you for this excellent write up and your earlier tutorial on the regular method as well. I have used the regular method frequently (I use Jon Rista's writeup), but this seems to be worth trying.

I think John's write-up is excellent and I have used it myself as I attempt to fully understand the Wavelet Regularization aspects of Deconvolution. Once I feel I have a better understanding of those issues I will be updating these two posts.

One question though:
I have installed, in addition to starnet++, StareXterminator for PI as well as starnet2. In my experience, generally, starnet2 is a bit better than StareXterminator, whin in turn is really better than starnet++. So, I guess the best way is to create the starmask outside the EZ-decon script and then direct the script at this image, or is there a way to direct the script to use e.g. starnet2?

First - thank you!

Second, I do not know if there is a way to get EZ-Decon to use starnet2. But - you can create the star map outside of the app and pull it in.

You can create a new one offline and pull it in with the mask view - or you can pull in a mask that EX-decon previously computed.
Note that EX-Dec likes maps that have been processed - but it seems as though you could either process it offline and pull it in or pul in the raw star map and use the mask panel tools to process the map.

You could also contact darkarchon - who built this - and ask if he could make starmask2 a built-in option. He is on the Pixinsight forums a lot.
