I just purchased a Canon T6i/750D and was looking at how to connect it to APT for a programed eclipse sequence. Most of the documents I am reading indicate using a serial cable to control the shutter but my searches for one are coming up blank. Does anyone know where I can find one?

The serial cable is needed to enable you to shoot 1-2 images per second via APT vice the 1 per every 5seconds that the USB cable allows. I think I may have just found one from Hap Griffin.

Have you tried setting up a plan in APT to do this as im sure its possible.
ie 1/50th of seconds no pause

Yep I tried that and APT automatically puts in 5sec even if the pause is set to zero. They indicate it is a limitation of communicating with the camera via USB. I checked the APT forum and someone had already asked the question about setting up continuous shooting with no delay and APT responded that they have a "Extreme EOS shooting" mode that does allows for 1-2frames/second but it requires the use of both the USB cable and a serial cable.

Seems funny you can do a 300 second exposure but not a 1/2 second exposure one after the other , they need to sort that out i think.

I tried to replace USB standard cable for a longer one (2-3 meters instead standard 6 feets), but it does not work, no signal. Do I need a shielded one with compensators?

Try using backyard EOS. The only delay I get is the camera writing to the SD Card. You can try taking a movie with it as well. Pretty high frame rate.
