After having my share of glitches with ASIAir I wanted to experiment with N.I.N.A. to realize the benefits it offers not the least appealing is ability to utilize equipment from manufacturers other than ZWO. So its loaded, I’ve pre-experimented with getting polar aligned, etc. But my biggest failure so far is just being able to connect without having to “acknowledge” or “accept” the request from my control PC. So the MELE3C is sitting on the scope just like an ASIAir would, and there is no screen or mouse, or keyboard. How can you even get another computer to control the MELE3C if you don’t know it’s supposed to “click” on OK? I have spent hours back and forth with a portable screen, hdmi cable, and frustrated because the text in NINA is so small that I cannot see it on a tablet. What is the process by which I can simply turn on my laptop and select the MELE3 and have it appear without the need for a ‘click’ or another OK on the MELE side?
Mele3C - needs acknowledgement to share?
I use Google Chrome remote desktop and set the mele (in its bios settings) to switch on when power is supplied. You need to configure it with screen, mouse and keyboard, after that you just give it power and remote in with your laptop.
You also have to have it set that it does not need a password on start, and in my case that it launches Chrome remote on start up. YouTube was my teacher….
You will need to put a screen on it to at least get it set up, mostly for setting up remoting in and controlling updates. After that, anything you need to do can be done via remote login.
Thanks for your quick response Tony. It sounds like what you have said is a summary of what I have already setup. But that still doesn’t address how I am to begin to see the desktop of the MELE3 from my control laptop unless I first plug the MELE3 into a monitor. So, you see everytime before I want to image with NINA that I should need to plug the MELE3 into a monitor and click “OK” to enable another laptop to control the MELE is not a solution. My control laptop should need to simply “find” the MELE3 and remote in without the MELE3 having a say ; for example: I turn on my ASIAir and it broadcasts its own WIFI signal. Not a problem. The MELE3 should also be able to broadcast a mobile hotspot, but no matter what I have tried it doesn’t comply. IT wants to be connected to the internet first. I can’t believe that anyone using the MELE fanless computer for controlling their scope is first plugging in a screen and then clicking “OK” or worse yet retrieving the one-time password that some RDS platforms require. Not sure if NINA requires an internet connection but I don’t think so once all of the databases are downloaded. Thank you
You’ve got something setup wrong. I have a Mele4 and I just log in using Windows remote desktop and there’s the Mele, no need to click anything on the Mele itself. I believe Chrome desktop is just as easy. What are you using to remote in?
Just an IBM thinkpad win 11pro. So, yes maybe I’m overthinking it. I had CRD going at one point but it required an internet connection as well and my connection across the front driveway (~75’) was so sketchy it kept dropping. And so I guess what I’m looking for is an alternative that doesn’t care about my home WIFI.
I was asking what software are you using to remote in? My scope is in the backyard, both PC’s are on the home network. There might be other ways to do it but that seems to work well for me.
Cuiv has a couple of videos of setting up a mini PC as a wireless hotspot - you have to jump through a few Windows-related hoops….
Another (easier) option is to buy a small wireless usb dongle and plug that into the PC - Astrobloke (also on YT) goes over how to do that.
