Stacking data with different resolution - same telescope, different cameras

Hi there !

Apologies if this has been discussed before, but I'm wondering if anyone knows a relatively simple way for me to stack two data sets with different resolution ?

Last year I captured about 5hrs on the Cygnus Loop with my Canon Rebel T7. APS-C sensor, 6000x4000. Lights, Darks, Flats, and Dark Flats.

Just this past weekend, I captured another 6hrs of data on the Cygnus Loop, but this time with my ASI2600MC Pro. Also APS-C, but slightly different resolution of 6248x4176. And again - Lights, Darks, Flats, and Dark Flats.

Both were shot through the same scope with reducer - my Askar 65PHQ with .75x reducer - focal length of 312mm.

Both are framed nearly identically. It's actually pretty crazy how close the framing is, because I wasn't initially planning on combining these two, lol.

Programs I currently am using for my workflow would be Deep Sky Stacker, Siril, and Photoshop. I've heard you can do this with Pixinsight, but I don't really want to use my free trial right now if possible - that seems more like a winter project. Trying to keep it to the freeware, or software I already have.

I’m currently away from my PC so I don’t have sample images to provide, but I also don’t think that’s necessary for the question.

It’s going to be pretty quick and simple in PI. You might be able to do it in Siril but it won’t be quick or easy. I would try the combination tool to get an alignment first. If that doesn’t work then you could try it as if you were making a mosaic.

I’ve literally added bin 1 and bin 2 frames to wbpp before and it did the alignment and scaling of the bin2 frames to match the bin 1 luminance… there were no issues at all in that process.

It will sometimes even work with a simple star alignment.

So how do you do it? I’ve wondered this myself. Just dump it all into WBPP and it sorts it out??

I do it often even with 4 different setups. Usually I stack each setup as usual and then I do star alignment (you can take either of stacks as a reference) . Once star aligned I integrate them all together..

In Siril I would do it manually. Pre-process each batch of subs with darks flats, and biases. Then register and stack them all together. Pretty easy, I’ve done a number of times using multiple scopes and cameras.

Thanks for all the replies everyone, and sorry for lack of response on my part - working late and such.

You’ve given me some options to work with that I’m going to try out this weekend.
Stacking with Siril seems like my best option for now.

Thanks again everyone for responding !

I ended up using Siril to calibrate and stack everything.
Not sure if it was worth it all in the end, but at least I know how to do this now lol.
