Hi everyone,

I’m looking for advice on my H-alpha processing/tuning. I paired my Lunt80 with 174MM and these are my recent tries:

My problem is that the solar surface often looks very messy, or rice-like. In active regions I can see more continuous filaments around sunspots, but most of the areas look very messy after sharpening. I hope to get more neat images like an older image: https://app.astrobin.com/u/rigel123?i=64n5qz&r=0

I’m trying to understand the main cause:

  • Is this normal for single-stack / Quark?

  • Is my tuning possibly off-band, showing too much wing/photospheric texture?

  • Is this mainly a processing issue, especially too much small-scale sharpening in IMPPG?

  • Would double-stacking the Lunt 80 make the surface texture much smoother and more coherent?

Any feedback would be appreciated. I’m especially curious in whether this image suggests a bandwidth problem, or I simply need to tune the bandwidth better, or just gentle processing.

Thanks!

Your scope is not good, send it to me and i will fix it for you 😂

Well, you need to test many times, with same camera or other camera, try different times because maybe conditions are changing too, i feel you are close there, so give it more tries and see if the problem is still there the same, i don’t think it is processing really, and also double stacking won’t solve a problem of single stacking, if you can just post a snapshot or screenshot of your video of the sun before the processing, because we can see if processing is part of the problem or not.

From your gallery i can see that you also use the Quark, do you have problems with it too?
