Hi everyone,

I'm hoping someone has run into this before because I'm completely stumped.

I'm using an iOptron CEM70 with N.I.N.A. and have discovered that the mount's Park position is different from its Zero Position.

If I click Search for Zero Position in iOptron Commander, the mount goes to the correct home position every time.

However, if I issue a Park command (either from N.I.N.A. or directly through Commander), the mount slews to an entirely different position. It ends up lying almost horizontally and pointing backwards rather than returning to the Zero Position.

I've tried:

  • Setting the mount to the correct Zero Position.

  • Selecting User Defined Park Position.

  • Saving the current position as the park position.

  • Parking the mount again.

No matter what I do, the Park command always sends it back to that same incorrect position.

I've also noticed that sometimes Commander continues to display "Slewing" after the mount has already finished moving.

Some background that may or may not be relevant:

  • Earlier this year my GPS module had an issue where it incorrectly thought the mount was in the Northern Hemisphere. The module has since been removed and location was corrected with the hand controller. Is now displaying the current hemisphere (southern)

  • The mount otherwise behaves normally. Slewing, tracking, plate solving, and imaging all work correctly.

My main questions are:

  • Is there something I'm missing when trying to save a User Defined Park Position?

  • Is this a known firmware or Commander issue?

I'd really appreciate any ideas or things I should check. Thanks!

I have the same setup (CEM70 and NINA) in a remote observatory. Here is what I’ve found:

  • The “Park” and “Home” positions are absolutely different things according to the CEM70. I’ve learned to treat them as two completely different positions that are not necessarily related to each other

  • I’ve used the iOptron Commander app to select my Park position. Bring up the Commander app (I’m running 9.14); click on “Mount Panel”; then on “Park” …

  • … this brings up a sub menu where I choose my Parking Position. I use “Horizon Position 2” but you will choose what works best for you.

Whatever position I choose in this way is the position that NINA uses as the Parking position
