Frustration with U-C 108 tilt adapter system reliability issues - Forums

Hi U-C 108 users!

I have reached the end of my patience with the U-C 108 Tilt adapter system. I was in the original 100 purchasers of this scope and it has been a fight ever since, but this last round has burned me enough!

Every trip to a dark site, I have to be worried about the Tilt. I installed a Wanderer ETA just to try and maintain a flat image. I am using a ZWO ASI6200M on the scope and after a dark sky trip this last weekend, set up the scope in the back yard so I could do some city based imaging. Tuesday night. I went from near-darkness here in Vancouver, Canada, (about 10:15pm to 3am fighting the knobs.

The tilt was so bad, Aberration Inspector could not finish a run. I am pretty certain, having to make adjustments literally every outing does not bode well for longevity of the apparatus.

My 108 is first generation and I have asked William Optics to fix the scope. I am not sure if they will put in the new “reversed kit” or tell me to find another solution but II have no hesitancy putting on the adapter you had made by Telescop Express.

Can you, (or anyone who has purchased the adapter from Teleskop), let me know what the product number might be or description so I can order one?

I’m pretty sure it’s not just you. Had similar issues when I had the scope, but returned to switch fo sqa106 due to the frustration with stx and reflection from internal ring. Stx is just not stable, even if you adjust it, it doesnt lock into place and tilt adjust can easily change.

If youre planning to continue using the scope, I’d advise contacting WO directly. They did reply to me that they can ship a normal metal adapter that goes to cat91 which can fit instead of the stx.

I have a friend with the UC76 and he’s expressed a lot of disappointment around tilt and the pain of adjusting it.

I hope you can resolve your issue… I have had a similar tilt issue with a different scope and after 2 months trying to produce a decent image with it, I returned it… I spent upwards of 12h under the skies trying to get the field flat enough that the resulting images would clean up ok with the use of blurxterminator, however I found that no matter what I did, there was still artefacts left over from BXT, even if the stars appeared round, and in the unprocessed stacked image, they were pretty horrible.

I bought a Redcat 51 WIFD in the hopes that it, being the ‘gold standard’ of small wide field refractors’, would be better… Guess what… I still have tilt… My camera does not exhibit tilt on my Askar 120APO, nor did it on my 65PHQ…
