I think its kind of slipped under the radar for a lot of people but Frank over at SetiAstro has just updated Cosmic Clarity sharpening section with a correction option. I was curious if it really was serious competition to BlurX. The images were treated the same with the only difference being the sharpening/correction software used. Here’s the results:

📷 comp-2.jpgcomp-2.jpgYou can come to your own conclusions with your own data but to my eye, they are very close. At extreme zoom they both hallucinate differently. Both are delivering very usable results. More testing would be need to really know which is closer to being truthful.

BlurX was used at default values. CC was adjusted to match, approximately 15% over default setting.

I love PI, it’s still the best overall workspace and has some great tools but I have to say that IMO, BlurX isn’t the only game in town anymore.

…and the nice part of Frank’s work is that you can still use CC from PI itself to see which one works best for you.

I agree. I don’t know why RC Astro locked them selves into PI so strongly. You could always get noiseX and starX for photoshop and Affinity but never BlurX.
