Sky-watcher mount drives and PDH2 incompatibility: alternatives?

Hello. I chose the Sky-watcher GTi as my mount moving from planetary to DSO imaging. After some research I was sure that I would use these 3 softwares; sharpcap for aquisition, pdh2 for guiding, and synscan pro for controlling the mount. I have had success with sharpcap and synscan, however, through my best efforts of going two different routes to get pdh2 to communicate with my GTi - ASCOM and st4 connections - I have learned that the sky-watcher driver just doesn’t work? I have attempted to do further research and have discovered ‘shoestrings’ as an alternative means for connections. Has anyone with the same issue managed to get pdh2 and synscan talking at all? Are there alternative guiding softwares, perhaps even ones specifically for sky-watcher mounts? I would preferably like to stick with pdh2 due to its drift-align feature, which is useful to me given I don’t have a view of the pole, and polar scope alignment is tricky here in the southern hemisphere.

Any inputs are greatly appreciated…

I would suggest using Green Swamp Server for controlling the mount rather than Synscan. Both PHD2 and Shapcap work flawlessly with that combination.

Are you using ST4 to connect your guide scope?

I use a mini pc on my GTi to connect my guide cam to Nina via usb and have zero problems

Hi.

Nowadays guiding via st-4 port is outdated. You should use pulse guide via synscan app or green swamp server. Both do the job.

All the best. M.

Or switch to ASIAir, it works fine with Skywatcher mounts. Manual at https://mega.nz/fm/isowDBCJ

Absolutely agree with Marcin and Tony.

I purchased my Skywatcher HEQ5 in 2021 and have used GreenSwampServer with N.I.N.A. and PHD2 since I set it up and have had zero issues.

Definitely use pulse guiding. I bought a usb cable to connect my mount to my miniPC (see image below) from Amazon and it too has worked great with no issues.

Good Luck!
