Gen AI upscaling in astrophotography?

I realise this could be a contentious issue, but has anyone found success in using any of the AI upscaling tools to essentially ‘sharpen’ an astrophoto?

If so, what tools?

Clearly these have the potential to make detail up which is not so desirable. I was thinking mainly from the point of view of occasionally printing an image.

Interested to hear what people think.

Thanks.

I have tried a few them and none really gave acceptable results.

Hi. In terms of data purity, it's better to combine short and long exposures. You definitely don't need to worry about artificial intelligence distorting your photo. Alternatively, you should use it very carefully and without fanaticism. This is purely my opinion.

I played around with sharpening in the 1990’s and grew to dislike it. Back then, and to some extent still it makes an image look grainy to me.

So I stay away from doing phony stuff with my imaging. And I think wasting time trying to make a sow’s ear into a silk purse is…. a waste of my time.

So I try to get my images right in the camera. Better equipment = Better results.

I liken Sharpening to Speech to Text. When someone sends me a nonsensical text, I can tell they were talking to their phone and not checking what their compooper wrote. It was bad back then, and has only marginally gotten better today.
