ZWO 30F4 mini guide scope teething issues

I’d appreciate any hints or suggestions from users of the ZWO 30F4 guidescope. I have just begun using this and have the ZWO ASI120mm camera. I think this is a common popular combination. I have had several good evenings using this with PHD2. But two nagging problems remain.

1. To focus the camera with supplied extension tube, the camera is pulled out nearly all the way and so is “only just” mounted into the back of the scope. It works ok  but I wonder why it only just fits, why would they design it that way? I assume I am doing something wrong.

2. Turing the black focusing tube at the front of the guidescope gives a very fine adjustment - , several rotations seems to have only a marginal impact on focus. But when I tighten the red lock ring, it goes out of focus. So currently guiding without the lock engaged. Again may I am doing something wrong, or maybe the mechanism is broken?

any advice would be very much appreciated
thanks

I have the same guide scope and camera and experienced the exact same issues.

I had to use a 1.25" extension tube on the camera to get mounted in the scope and achieve focus.

The focus mechanism for the scope is definitely frustrating and I had to mess around with holding the objective lens while tightening the lock ring. I still don't think it's truly focused, but at short focal lengths it's good enough.

Because of these issues I dare not touch the focus or unmount the camera because I know it'll be a headache getting it right again. This setup does work once the issues are worked out.

Good luck!

Thanks DanRossi. Glad to hear maybe it’s not me, but also disappointed in the equipment quality!  Yes it works I guess, but seems poorly designed . Appreciate your response though, thanks 🙏
