I was a bit triggered by the recent discussion and actions taken about AI modified/generated images.
I consider AB to be THE place to go about astrophotography. In that respect , I think it is good to recall the meaning of the word photography .It is “drawing with light” (not with mouse, brush, software 😊). It is not my intention to (re) start discussion is it science or art (as by MHO it is neither and both at the same time. ) I think that the nice, eye-catching images are kind of promoted and popularized (not only on AB) much more than the images that bring something new in known object or they are among only few images certain object ever published . In short , somehow the form (astroIMAGE ) is prevailing over the content (ASTROimage). I think that there should be some way to recognize and award somehow, the content equally as the form is recognized and awarded . I am not thinking necessarily about the IOTD process per say but even that could be considered. As sometimes nice images are pushed forward even though processing somehow goes beyond the physical limitations of the optics and location, On the same way the effort and the content should be pushed forward and recognized even if processing is not up to the top notch level. Would like to hear what the AB community thinks about it , but please let’s not go to science/art or remote large setups vs. backyard warmholes.
