CEM40EC Handset: "Unknown Position" - What does it mean?

I may be a little paranoid after suffering a tripod collision due to a known (but not to me) software compatibility issue between the ASIAIR and the CEM40 series of mounts. But I just noticed that as soon as I begin to slew after setting the mount zero position, a “Unknown position” message shows up at the top of my handset. This message appears irrespective of whether I use the ASIAIR or the handset to direct the slew.

It’s hard for me to think that it means the mount doesn’t know where it’s pointing given that the handset continues to display RA and DEC values that change as I slew. But I don’t understand it and am left unsure whether it will do a meridian flip when required and not hit the tripod again.

Advice from those in the know will be greatly appreciated. I’ve encountered software, mount (x 2) , focuser, and camera problems this month, and have moved beyond the realm of rational thought, unable to do much of anything but sob quietly and ask for my mother… :>)

I see “unknown position” on the handset for my CEM 70 as well. I think it just means that as far as the mount knows, it’s pointing at some arbitrary point in the sky since you chose the target with other software I.e. it knows the coordinates that it’s pointing at, just not what’s at those coordinates. So, not an issue.

Cheers,

Scott
