I have an image I’ve uploaded 3 times attempting to get it plate solved within AstroBin. It has been plate-solved in PixInsight using Image Solver. I have uploaded an uncompressed XISF image of the image to try and help the process. The image is still in the Staging Area while I wait.

  1. Is there a problem in AstroBin regarding plate-Solving?

  2. Does this image have to be published in order for plate-solving to work?

  3. What is the purpose of uploading an uncompressed file, (IC 2177 Seagull Nebula.xisf - 696.98 MB) ? Does AstroBin or I delete the file afterwards?

Hello,

thanks for reaching out.

There appears to be power outage at the data center that hosts astrometry.net's infrastructure (I've been in touch with their staff), and currently AstroBin depends on it for plate-solving.

When astrometry.net will become available again, I will queue all failed/pending jobs again.

If you need additional clarification, please get in touch using the Help menu → Support link

Regarding your other questions:

  1. No, it's not required. Images in your staging area get solved too, normally.

  2. That's for you to store as an additional backup on AstroBin. It's private to you, AstroBin does not expose its location. It never deletes it either, unless you do.

Closing this topic now, to keep the AstroBin forums focused on discussions regarding astrophotography and astronomy.

Kind regards,
Salvatore
