Bizarre Stacking Artifacts In DSS

Hello all,

I am processing some data I collected on the Tadpole Nebula in Deep Sky Stacker, and got a surprising--and distressing result!  The entire image is suffused with a blocky quilt pattern. (See attachment, which is slightly stretched but otherwise not post-processed.)

Does anyone have any ideas on what caused this problem and how I can solve it?

Many thanks!

Hello,
DSS has a very active forum/bug reporting system at https://groups.io/g/DeepSkyStacker/topics. I would give it a shot, although the explanation given by @Jonathan Clark seems very likely.

Yo yo, if you didn’t use jpegs, I had the same result when stacking 2 different nights of data and forgot to add my flats.
