M1 is popular right now ! Looks as if about 50 shots have been posted in just the last two weeks !
I’m wondering if it’s worth posting another or just hanging on to it until the surge has diminished ?!
The IOTD staff must have a tough time getting through all of the daily images; seems to exceed 400 on average? (not sure what percentage of images posted are actually entered into IOTD? but it would be interesting to know!) I take my hat off to their dedication!
BTW; M42 is up there too ! I stopped counting at 100 (in less than two weeks)

I’m a submitter, so the first round which should be the the round that has the most images. My queue is usually 5 full pages plus a partial 6th. Each page has 30 images I think it is. Depending on the day I’ll promote my limit, 6 images, in 3 pages, or some days I get through all 6 pages and still have promotions available.
Post what you want, don't compare or even try for iotd or tp. If it's good enough they'll select it, just because there are 50plus of the image you have shouldn't sway you posting your image. People will like it if its to their taste. I gave up years ago trying for IOTD or TP after being chastised for an image.
If your happy post your image, it's your choice.
Are you trying to make a contest submission or add another image to your gallery? If your image is good enough to win recognition, that’s likely to happen more because it’s good than when you submit it. So, my advice is to work on your image to make it better than all the other 50 M1 images that have recently been submitted and then just post it.

You’re absolutely right of course, except my problem is that I’m never satisfied and just eventually say “enough” (usually after 10+ iterations)! And many other shots will remain unposted due to the above and/or otherwise atrocious seeing conditions etc.
And of course what I think is good/better may have nothing do with what the staff think/feel!
