Paramount MYT + Nina + PHD2 guiding issues

Hey folks, quick question for anyone running a Paramount MYT with NINA and PHD2.

My Paramount is doing my head in. Everything is set up correctly as far as I can tell, SkyX, ASCOM, all that. But every now and then PHD2 throws up the error “your mount doesn’t support pulse guiding”. When I check the ASCOM interface, the “Direct Guide” box has unticked itself for no reason. I tick it back on and things work again… until it randomly happens again.

It’s driving me mad. Sometimes I have to fully restart PHD2 just to get guiding back, and I’m losing way too many subs because of it.

Has anyone run into this and found a fix?

Have you tried launching PHD2 without going though NINA first and see whether this happens at all?

No I have not tried that… is that a know fix for this? so I would launch SkyX, then PHD2, connect them and then NINA last I assume

I running a 24/7 sequence in NiNA so I’m hoping to be able to get it stable enough so it mostly behaves

I was suggesting that by connecting to PHD2 alone you'll be able to ascertain whether the ASCOM driver is to blame for the loss of the server connection or it is NINA, somehow. You run NINA but do not connect to PHD2 in this scenario. Obviously, it would be either manual handling if changing targets (stop PHD2, re-start PHD2) or just do one side of the meridian target. It is just for testing, obviously, not as a permanent feature.

I also am running a MyT+Ascom7+NINA+Phd2 with the latest version 7.0 of Ascom2XMount and version 13960 of TheSky64 on windows 11. I always start Phd2 from NINA and never have had this problem, so I don’t think this is coming from TheSky64 or Phd2. Have you turned off all usb power saving control in windows 11?

i had the exact same problem. i switched to Windows 11 and switched off power management in all usb ports.

whenever there is an update sometimes these power management check boxes get ticked so always check that. hope u solve the issue, it can be really frustrating.

Thanks for the advice guys! Ok I have just checked and power management on the usb ports was turned on, so I have now turned it off! Hopefully this will resolve this issue… I have a good feeling about this :)

I had the same issue and tried the USB fix. Seems wacky, but I haven’t the issue in months.

Curious how you all are setup for platesolving in NINA? Astap or TSX? I get strange windows debugging errors sometimes. Like the NINA call to platesolve in TSX crashes.

ASTAP. Never fails (except when it does, when too few stars are in the field e.g., with NB filters).
