Hi.

Help needed please.

I took 700 shots of the polar region to create star trails
Sony7iv
Tamron 17 - 28mm lens. Set at 17mm
ISO: 3200
Aperture: f3.5
Shutter: 10 secs

I selected 170 files and stacked in Photoshop, StarstaX and Sequator all with the same result

Trails but with a separate ‘star’ at the end of the trails. Imagine the lower case i with the dot to the left of the upright. I would appreciate any thoughts offered.

If I remember right, load all of the photos into PS layers making sure that they are all aligned based on the foreground. Then select all layers except the bottom (background) layer. Change their blend mode to Lighten. That’s the quick and easy way I’ve done it in the past. Probably not the best way but it’s worked for me.

Thomas. Many thanks for taking the time to answer. All of the shots are of the polar region. No foreground. There does not seem to be any tripod movement. Really strange. Thanks again.

As mentioned by Thomas, did you use ‘lighten’ (or maximum) as the blend mode instead of average?

Cheers,

Scott

Hi Scott.

Yes, lighten. As I said it also happens in Sequator and StarStax.

Thanks for helping out.
