Sony a6500 intervalometer recommendations from actual users needed

I own a sony alpha 6500 and I am looking for an intervalometer that will work with my sony. I already bought a wrong one because the bleeping chatbot insisted it does have an internal intervalometer and will work together with my sony a6500 shutter settings, but it lied to me so my money wasted.

I found a pixel for sony but the specs are contradicting or incomplete. Some say it plays with my camera if it is an s1/s2 but others say it has to be an s2!

It is this kind of inconcrete info that for the moment witholds me from making another purchase. I also found a JJC, but again I would like to hear from people who have handson experience weather it truly works.

So please, anybody with a sony a6500 and intervalometer out there that would like to tell me what they use?

I am not in the USA so I buy my stuff from Amazon.de or amazon.nl

Reason is simply the import and customs procedures here in Bulgaria are ridiculously slow, old fashioned and cumbersome. Plus I will have to pay fees, duties and taxes.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Kees

I don't have direct experience with an intervalometer, but you might consider controlling the camera from a (mini) PC. In the past I controlled my Sony a6000 via USB with a Raspberry Pi using KStars/Ekos, recently I am using Windows 10 mini‑PC (Mele Quieter 3C) using N.I.N.A., SharpCap and Sony Edge SW. The Raspberry Pi in particular is a low‑cost alternative you might find interesting.

Hi Jure Menart,

I know this is a possibility, I use a few pi’s already. But the power supply will be a problem from my locations.

To begin with I want to keep it as simple as possible. It is basically a revival of an old hobby to see If I would like to expand on it again.

Make sense yeah.

I solved it with external cell phone battery (stolen from my wife so it’s basically free 😂):

But I fully understand if you wish to keep setup minimal :)

Hi Kees,

I used a Sony A6400 when I started AP, and this intervalometer from amazon worked well for me, and I think it might be the JJC you’re referring to: https://a.co/d/i2r8kZg

This one connects to the camera via the micro usb port. Also, it probably goes without saying, but the camera has to be set to bulb mode for the interval shooting to happen. Hope this helps!

That is the one, thanks for sharing your first hand experience.

I will purchase this since they claim it can do it, so if it doesn’t I have a balid reason to return it.

Many thanks again.
