Filter advice for reflection nebula and the dark & dusty

Hi all,

My photography so far has really just focused on emission nebula. My L-Enhance hasn't left my imaging train since I bought it.

Inspired by the some of the amzaing images of dark dusties from the likes of Yizhou Zhang and Richard Sweeney, a couple of examples:

I would like to have a go at shooting these sorts of targets myself. I'm unsure which filter type would be best, should I be using a light polution filter for this sort of work or simply a UV/IR cut filter? Any recommendations or other advice would be fantastic and greatly appreciated.

I currently use a 2600MC Pro and shoot quite wide with a Redcat51 from my backyard in a Bortle 5/6.

Thank
Danny

Dark and dusty targets are not likely to be helped by the L-Enhance. When I attempt broadband targets, I try an IR/UV filter or no filter. Best to try imaging with the L-Enhance and without to see for yourself.

Hi Danny,

I managed to reasonably expose the dark and dustys around M42 using an Optolong L-Pro ( posted on my page )  I’ve used other CLS filters but I was quite impressed with this one. I image in Bortle 8 skies ( and I think that’s even generous ). As with you, I mostly image with a dual band filter but wanted to capture some more broad band and dust lanes.

Cheers

Ryan
